Todmorden History was formed in early 2002 when a friend of a friend brought in an album of old post cards that their father had been collecting for many years.
When the founder of Todmorden History saw, for the first time, a picture of his father he said “If this one picture means this much to me how many more people could these pictures have meaning for” and promptly set about creating the Todmorden History Web Page. It soon became apparent that the images on the site were attracting interest, not only from local people, but people from around the world who were either born in Todmorden, had relatives in Todmorden or had some connection with Todmorden.
Interest in the site continued to grow as more and more people contributed images, facts and dates. One of our proudest days was when Todmorden News allowed us to digitize and put on the site photos of the first ever Todmorden News.
The site also enjoys the support of the local Library and we would also like to thank the Bear Whole Foods Shop in Todmorden for providing us with display space and allowing us to have a viewing Day.
The site has moved with the times, allowing us to display larger images with better definition, easier picture navigation and an improved ‘request a picture’ service.
